Keren Zahavi, M.S. CCC-SLP is a New York State licensed and nationally certified Speech-Language Pathologist. She received a Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Miami, and a Master’s Degree of Science at Long Island University Brooklyn. Keren maintains a certificate of clinical competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). She also holds a New York certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) as well as a Bilingual Extension Certification (BEA).
Prior to her degree as a speech pathologist, Keren earned a degree in Education. She worked for several years as a teacher at a private school in which she gained experience teaching early literacy skills.
Keren has worked in a variety of pediatric settings including private and public schools, home care, Early Intervention and a private practice. She has experience assessing and treating clients with articulation/phonology disorders, receptive/expressive language impairments, learning disabilities, feeding and oral motor difficulties, pragmatic language disorders, children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, (Central) Auditory Processing Disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Keren has been PROMPT trained; a tactile-kinesthetic approach that uses touch cues to a patient’s articulators (jaw, tongue, lips) to manually guide them through a targeted word, phrase or sentence. She also holds a certificate of completion for DIR/Floortime Model (Infancy and Early Childhood Basic Training Course). In addition, Keren is a Hanen Certified Speech Language Pathologist and provides workshops and training in the Learning Language and Loving It program.
Keren believes in a collaborative approach to therapy in which parents, teachers and other therapists work together to provide an optimal environment for success. She strives to create a fun and positive learning environment for her clients. Additionally, she believes in working on incorporating functional skills in therapy in order to promote carryover of speech therapy skills.
